Field Development

On the back of a very successful Benefit Meeting held at Clonmel Greyhound Track in February last (the Thursday after the National Meeting in fact), it was decided that our field was in need of a facelift. We had raised a large sum and felt that investing in our facilities was the correct course of action. Our sincere gratitude to all who supported ourselves and our near neighbours Clonmel & District on the night.

After much debate and soul-searching, it was decided that we would have the field resurfaced and re-seeded. A sub-committee was formed to employ a suitable contractor for the project. Clerihan-based Thomas Cooney & Sons  came highly recommended. Experienced in producing top-class surfaces on sportsfields and horse-gallops, they were just the men for the job. Their professionalism and good advice left the sub-committee in no doubt that the mammoth task would have a successful outcome, and put many a doubting mind at rest. A special seed-mix best suited to our needs was imported from England and we were ready to proceed. Work commenced in late April, and although many people cursed our wet summer, it was a great help to those who were involved in the project, and a new “green carpet” is now on display in Ballyglasheen!

The sub-committee of Kevin Morrissey, Kieran Kennedy, Dick Lonergan, Declan Byrne, Thomas Kennedy and James Kennedy are to be congratulated on a job well done!

We hope we have succeeded in our aim of producing a coursing stretch that is second-to-none. Why not come along to our Meeting on 1st & 2nd November next to judge for yourself!
